Pierre Marly opened his first Paris store in the Rue François 1er in 1951. An inspired optician, he designed his collections in every conceivable material (buffalo horn, tortoiseshell, leather, wood) and knew at a glance how to harmonise face and glasses.
Thanks to Pierre Marly, glasses were elevated to the status of fashion accessory. Manipulating dimensions, shapes and colours to create bold, stylish, high-performance eyewear, he quickly earned the nickname “couturier des lunettes” (the eyewear couturier), designing eyewear for the most famous and influential people of the day.
